OTS Competition
A Real Industrial Challenge — in a Safe Digital Environment
The RTsim International OTS Competition is an international online challenge for students and young professionals in the Energy Industry. Participants operate a computer-based simulator based on the logic and dynamics of real industrial process units.
The goal is not simply to complete a test, but to make controlled decisions, respond to process behaviour and achieve a stable operating mode.

Participation Formats
Choose how you would like to take part in the RTsim International OTS Competition.
Every participant must complete the Individual Registration Form. Participants may also join the Team League as part of a five-person team.

Form a team of 5 participants, including one Team Captain, and compete in the team ranking.
Only the Team Captain can submit the Team Registration Form. The captain provides their own name and email address and registers the other four team members.
A captain may register more than one team. However, the other team members must be unique to each team and cannot be registered in multiple teams.

RTsim.Career is a platform of computer-based simulators based on the logic and dynamic behaviour of real industrial process units.
Participants operate equipment, monitor pressure, temperature, flow and level, and see how the process responds to their decisions over time.
Before the competition, registered participants will receive access information, technical requirements and available preparation materials. The exact simulator and preparation schedule will be announced in the official rules.

2025 Highlights
In 2025, the RTsim Downstream OTS Competition received 92 applications from Nigeria, Bangladesh, Ghana, Uganda and Canada.
Thirty-six participants reached the final stage, and 55% used RTsim.Career for the first time. The winners represented Nigeria and Bangladesh.

AI for Process Engineering
RTsim.Advisor is a specialized AI assistant for chemical engineering, unit operations, and process equipment. It helps students, instructors, and engineers quickly understand technical concepts, analyze diagrams and screenshots, and connect theory with RTsim.Career simulators.
Q&A
Yes. Participation in the competition is free.
Previous experience should not prevent you from applying. In 2025, 55% of applicants used RTsim.Career for the first time. The preparation format for 2026 will be explained in the official participant instructions.
The result is based on technical task completion, the final operating state of the unit, process stability, safety-related indicators and other criteria applicable to the selected simulator. Completion time may be used to rank equal scores.
Participants will need a suitable computer and a stable internet connection. Complete technical requirements will be published before the competition.
